What do you picture when you hear the terms "mental illness" and "mental health?" The negative images often revolve around doctors, medication, and psychiatric wards. But what about the emotional highs and lows - the fear, support, hope and unconditional love that are often present in the family members of those diagnosed? What does a diagnosis of a mental illness mean for the family members of those with brain disorders and illnesses?

Iowa author Virginia Pillars is a mother who knows first hand that a loved one's diagnosis shapes your future too. Pillars shares her perspective of mental illness from symptoms to diagnosis toward recovery. She will share how her personal journey taught her how to navigate through the mental health system in order to advocate for her daughter.

Please join us to hear this true story of love, hope, healing and faith. Monday, May 22 at 6:30 PM at the Hiawatha Public Library.
