The Community Development Department administrates the Hiawatha Rental Housing Program. All residential rental properties; single family and multi-family, must be registered with the City. The program includes required inspections every three years. The International Property Maintenance Code is the standard for inspections. If you are a rental housing property owner or if you are a renter, more information regarding the Rental Housing Program can be found at click here.
A healthy home is made-up of seven principles including being well-maintained, pest-free, clean, dry, safe, well-ventilated, and contaminant free. Whether you own or rent a newly constructed home or one built over 100 years ago, if these principles are applied your house will be a healthy place to live and to call home. For more information regarding a healthy home go on line to Linn County Health.
