On April 4, City Council awarded the 2018 Mosquito Control Program to Mosquito Control of Iowa from Rolfe, Iowa. Mosquito Control of Iowa has over 30 years of experience in the industry and they have been performing mosquito spraying services in Hiawatha for the last several years in a row.
Hiawatha uses a Full Integrated Pest Management Program including a combination of treatments throughout the season based on the NEPDES permit. Program services include surveying, monitoring, larvaciding in stagnant water areas, and contact and residual spraying. Depending on the weather and species of mosquitoes encountered, the treatments will be selected from the control methods to provide the city with the best results. Mosquito Control does all spraying by ground; they do have an airplane but it used only for emergency situations.
