Join us for our first annual HIAWATHA FUN FEST on August 26-27th 2016 in Guthridge Park! We have some great activities for the whole family to enjoy! Bring your blankets, chairs and coolers and enjoy the fun!

Friday

6—9 Past Masters Band & Kiwanis Concessions-

If you like to dance, this is your show! Playing 60’s and 70’s pop dance music. “They play what others won’t!” 100% Dance Music, 100% of the time!

6—9 Glow Disc Golf Tournament (Clark Park)

9—11 Movie Under the Moon- You pick! Vote on the Hiawatha Fun Fest Facebook event page! Choices are: Harry Potter, The Good Dinosaur and The Angry Birds Movie. Voting will end on July 29th!

8  5K Fireman’s Run- Register today!  Race will begin at 8:00am from the 10th Avenue parking lot. Join the fun and run with the firefighters from around the corridor!                                https://hiawathafiremans5k.racedirector.com/

8—10 HiCREW Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast– Join the Hi-CREW Kiwanis club in Guthridge Park near the brown pavilion from 8am-10am to enjoy a yummy pancake breakfast to raise funds for their dictionary project. Adults $5.00 Children $3.00.

11—8 Food Vendors- El Kahir Shrine will be serving up some grilled food along with their pop corn wagon! Ruby’s Pizza will be partnering with GiGi’s Playhouse to serve up some of their famous pizza!

The Auxiliary ladies will be selling pie, brownies and cookies! While you are there enjoying some delicious treats, drop off your gently used men’s clothing, shoes and non-perishable food items for the veterans. The ladies will also be collecting gently used cell phones that will be donated to Cell Phones for Soldiers to provide our military troops serving overseas, free talk time to connect with their loved ones.

Girl Scout troop 3588 will be selling ice cold beverages and baked goods! Help their troop raise some funds to better the community!

Kona Ice will be selling their famous snow cones from 12-8pm! Come make your own creative flavors!

Smash a Car Fundraiser for Honor Flight Veterans 12 -Hiawatha American Legion Post 735 and Darrah’s Towing have partnered in support of our veterans by offering a “Smash a Car” booth during the Hiawatha Fun Fest.

Think you are up for the challenge? Well bring your muscles and come out to the Hiawatha Fun Fest on Saturday, August 27 and show us how it’s done! This is your opportunity to grab a sledge hammer and take a couple of your best swings at a car and the best part………………….the money you pay to “Smash a Car” will help send a veteran on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

Touch a Truck 12-3 – Ever seen the inside or a fire truck or police vehicle? Now is your chance to see what its all about!

Join us for an adult kickball tournament at Guthridge Park! The Cedar Rapids Social Club and the City of Hiawatha  are partnering to put on this event as part of Hiawatha Fun Fest, a brand new community festival!

• 18-and-over event
• 9 vs 9 co-ed format (min. 4 female on the field)
• Recreational level play / open to all athletic abilities
• 8 team, double elimination format using 3 ball diamonds
• Professional referee for each game – No player reffing
• Beer is allowed during the tourney for players over 21 (BYOB)
• Tournament champions receive a trophy provided by Letter Perfect, CR-themed T-shirts from Red Ball Printing, & $100 in gift cards to Mulligan’s Pub & Vito’s on 42nd
• 2nd place team receives $50 in gift cards to Mulligan’s Pub & Vito’s on 42nd

Library Character Clifford, Kids Crafts, Story Time, Book Drive 1—2:30 – Meet Clifford out in the park and join in on the crafts with the Hiawatha Library. The Friends of the Library will also have a book drive to check out!

Macaroni Kid children’s activities 1-3pm– Join Macaroni Kid in the kids area for some fun activities and crafts!

Lowes Kids Build Activity 3-5 – Come build with Lowe’s in the kids area. They will have all the supplies for you to put your craftsman skills to the test!

Entertainment– Music, Comedy, and the Art of Juggling

12:30-1:30 Cedar Rapids Spirit- Join the CR Spirits right after the Fun Fest parade over in the bandshell! They will perform a variety of routines!

1:30-3:30 Not Quite Brothers-  An acoustic trio from Manchester Iowa. They play a wide variety of awesome music from the past and present!

3:30—4       Culver’s Ice Cream Eating Contest – Do you like custard? Join us for an custard eating contest with Culver’s in between performances! Don’t get a brain freeze!

4-5 Mad Chad The Chainsaw Juggler – Also known as the Evel Knievel of comedy, this Guinness World Record chainsaw juggler regularly performs his crazy comedy show at performing art centers, corporate events, colleges and sporting events around the country.

5-5:30 Hiawatha K9 Demonstration with Reso – Join K9 Reso and Officer Naak as they show you their skills in a demonstration between performances!

6—9 Felix & Fingers Dueling Pianos – Felix and Fingers serves the greater mid-west as an exceptional dueling piano act and jazz duo. They offer a highly interactive and energetic show, all-request based, and designed to get people singing and dancing.
