History Commission Interviews

The History Commission has been compiling pictures and news articles and conducting interviews of individuals that have ties to Hiawatha and are familiar with the history of this great city since 2007. As you can imagine, the collection of historic artifacts has grown significantly over the last eight years.

So what does the History Commission do with all the pictures, articles and interview recordings they compile? Well, the History Commission partnered with Metro Studios of Hiawatha to create a video collection of the oral interviews including pictures to share memoirs of Hiawatha with history enthusiasts all over the world.

Advisory Board Purpose

This advisory board was established in 2016 as part of the City of Hiawatha’s MS4 permit from the State of Iowa. This permit is issued to jurisdictions giving authority and responsibility to manage their storm water discharges in accordance with Federal and State rules.

One important aspect of the MS4 Permit is citizen involvement. Hiawatha has established the Citizen Advisory board to complete this portion of the permit. This Board will focus on:

  • Developing and recommending storm water policies
  • Advising City Council in regards to needed storm water capital improvement projects
  • Reviewing any public input regarding storm water drainage or erosion control
  • Making such reports to the City Council as may be requested from time to time
  • Recommending best management practices for development of storm water management and water quality

This board meets quarterly and all meetings are open to the public. (Hiawatha City Code Section 162: STORM WATER RUNOFF CONTROL)

Notice

To ALL AUTOPAY Customers:
To keep on top of security matters, the payment method attached to your Hiawatha Water Account needs to be confirmed in our payment software. This confirmation of payment needs to be done to verify your account information with our newly updated GWorks Software. The updating process is simple, just contact our office at 319-393-5556 prior to October 1, 2024 to have this updated before the next auto payment occurs.
Any account which is not updated prior to 10/14/2024, will have their next ACH payment returned. A returned ACH payment could lead to an extra charge and/or a disruption in water service.
***Note*** Some of our customers have already completed this update. If that is you, we appreciate you taking the time to have completed this update!

Thank You!
